Johnston River of Life is a United Methodist community of Faith. As such, one of our formative documents is the Apostles Creed. A brief look at some of our Christian roots:
The Bible is the inspired word of God for all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Bible is relevant to our daily lives and "useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness." 2 Timothy 3:16
God exists as one substance in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God has been active in all of history as creator, redeemer, and sanctifier. God is all knowing, all present, sovereign over all of creation. God is loving, grace-filled, just, compassionate, holy, and is present with us in every circumstance of life.
Humanity is created in the image of God to have fellowship with God. Through freewill and disobedience that relationship is broken only to be restored through the atonement of Jesus' death and resurrection.
The Church is a local community of believers unified through faith. It is committed to the teachings of Christ; the Great Commandments, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, strength, and mind, and Love your neighbor as yourself," and the Great Commission, "Go and Make disciples of all nations." At JROL, we do these things through the mission statement of "Being Christ in Community."
